Participation in a SEG Student Chapters joint seminar
On Saturday, March 8, 2025, the Director of the Laboratory of Mining Informatics and Machine Learning Applications, Dr. Kapageridis Ioannis, participated in a joint seminar organized by the SEG Student Chapters of the Universities of Patras, NKUA, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, at the Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras on the Exploration and Exploitation of Industrial Minerals: Case Studies from the Greek Extractive Industry.
In his speech, Dr. Kapageridis presented the principles and stages of estimating mineral resources through an example of a magnesite deposit study from Greece. All speeches were very interesting and provoked many questions and a very fruitful discussion about the exploration and exploitation of industrial minerals in our country, as well as the training of geologists on issues related to the mining industry.
Congratulations are due to the Professors, students and PhD candidates participating in the SEG Student Chapters of the three Universities for the excellent organization. Special thanks to the Professor of the Department of Geology of the University of Patras, Stavros Kalaitzidis for the invitation and the opportunity he gave us to participate in the seminar.

Participation in the 2025 Parker Challenge
Our Laboratory has registered for the new AusIMM 2025 Parker Challenge. The competition focuses on the orientation and continuity directions of a Carlin gold deposit. For the next period until March 24, 2025, the staff of the Laboratory will analyze the available data, construct a reserve model of the deposit, and document the overall process according to the instructions of the organizers. The contest and data are sponsored by Barrick.

Software License Renewal
Our Laboratory is happy to announce the renewal of Maptek Vulcan, GeologyCore, PointStudio, and DomainMCF licenses for the new academic year. The number of licenses has also been increased due to our additional requirements. The software is extensively used in a number of undergraduate courses, such as Mine Planning and Applied Geostatistics at the Laboratory of Mining Informatics and Machine Learning Applications, in final year projects and PhD research. We are most thankful to Maptek for the continuous support.
